Lane in a Moroccan medina, ochre walls and worked doors

Cultural journeys

Listed medinas, ancient sites and museums, from Morocco to Egypt by way of Istanbul and Athens.

Morocco has several UNESCO World Heritage sites, among them the medinas of Fez, Marrakesh, Tetouan and Essaouira, the archaeological site of Volubilis and the ksar of Aït Benhaddou.

Beyond it, the days are built the same way: the historic areas of Istanbul, the Acropolis of Athens, Memphis and its necropolis at Giza and ancient Thebes at Luxor are all on the same list, and all of them are best seen early in the morning rather than in the middle of the day.

A cultural route is really built around pace: outdoor sites at first light and late afternoon, the middle of the day for museums, workshops and riads.
